How to Embrace Every Age

When we are young, most of us look forward to getting older. The more years pass the more things we are allowed to do and the more freedom we have. But at a certain point that excitement starts to wane and we no longer want to celebrate each birthday

Read on to find out why we should continue embracing our age, no matter what the number is!

Splendid Sixties

According to celebrated British author Martin Amis, in your 60s "life begins to look as precious again as it did when you were a child." Amis meant that on the other side of middle age, things that took on a certain wonder as a child are lost during the hustle and bustle of your 30s, 40s, and 50s. Once in your 60s that certain wonder returns. The pace of life may be slower, but it is even more magical.

Further, a recent study from the AARP showed that starting in your 50s, happiness tends to increase as you get older. At 60, you still have many wondrous, happy days ahead.

Stellar Seventies

Says writer and artist Joan Paulson Gage, "When you turn 70, you can't consider yourself middle-age anymore." But that doesn't have to be a bad thing. The age of 70, whether you consider it to be a milestone, means that you have a wisdom you never could have gleaned at any other age. Each day you have lived has given you a chance to uncover new truths and new joys and now you have the time and energy to share those with new generations.

Excellent Eighties

Upon the eve of his 80th birthday, author and neurologist Oliver Sacks wrote that he thinks of aging as "a time of leisure and freedom, freed from the factitious urgencies of earlier days, free to explore whatever I wish, and to bind the thoughts and feelings of a lifetime together."

Your 80s are a time to celebrate your freedom from the responsibilities of youth and continue those pursuits that are most precious to you, whether that means traveling, cooking, reading, or spending time with the people you love.

Nice Nineties

Writer Connie Springer is so enamored with the age of 90 that she wrote a book entitled "Positively 90." In it, she met a cast of nonagenarians that are active, vibrant, and above all, happy.

For Springer's subjects, there were a few important things that kept them going each day. These spry people were able to adapt to new situations, have a sense of humor, and never turned down an invitation. Living to 90 is an exciting gift. Facing it with open arms is truly the way to go .

Holy Hundred

If you've managed to reach the century mark, every day is truly worth embracing. If you've lived for a century in 2014, you've seen huge changes in the world - from world wars to computers and mobile phones. Each day is a gift that you can celebrate and cherish!
